Experiencing the Apprenticeship Festival at Burapha University in Thailand: A Touch of Culture and the Soul
My study and life at Burapha University in Thailand is like a colorful painting, and the most impressive part of it is undoubtedly the unforgettable event of the Apprenticeship Day.
On the eve of Teacher Appreciation Day, a mysterious yet exciting atmosphere pervades the campus. Students spend their spare time meticulously preparing gifts for their teachers. They gather in groups of two or three, discussing the arrangement of flower bouquets in corners of the campus, or they focus individually, selecting the most satisfactory flowers. In this process, I feel their pure and deep affection for their teachers.
Finally, on the day of the Apprenticeship Day, the entire campus took on a brand new look. The buildings in the campus were decorated with flowers and colorful ribbons, making them exceptionally beautiful. The air was filled with the fragrance of flowers and the scent of incense.
In the morning, the apprenticeship ceremony officially began in the school auditorium. The auditorium was packed with students wearing neat school uniforms, their faces solemn yet filled with anticipation. As the ceremony began, all teachers and students first bowed to the portrait of the king, expressing their respect for the country and the royal family. This part made me deeply feel the lofty status of the Thai royal family in the hearts of the people, and also appreciate the respect for the country and tradition in Thai culture. Then, the student representative took the stage to speak. Their words were filled with gratitude towards their teachers, some recalling moments of patient tutoring from their teachers, and others describing the care their teachers had given them in life. When emotions ran deep, many students' eyes were filled with tears.
Subsequently, came the most impressive part - the students presenting flowers and performing a kneeling ceremony to their teachers. Holding carefully crafted bouquets, the students marched in orderly formation, slowly approaching their teachers. They knelt down, with the instep of their feet touching the ground, leaned forward, raised the bouquets above their heads, and expressed their respect to their teachers in the most humble and reverent manner. Watching those tiny figures, I couldn't help but be moved by their sincerity and respect. In that moment, I deeply understood the connotation of respecting teachers and valuing education in Thai culture. This respect is not just a formality, but a cultural gene deeply ingrained in their bones.
As an observer, I was deeply moved by this ceremony. Throughout my upbringing, while I have always respected my teachers, I have never witnessed such a grand and sincere expression of respect. The respect Thai students show towards their teachers is evident in every subtle gesture and every sincere word. They taught me that respect is an emotion that comes from the heart, a reverence for knowledge and heritage.
The Teacher's Day event is not only a gesture of gratitude from students towards their teachers, but also a vivid display of Thai culture. It allows me to see the importance a country places on education and the inheritance of traditional culture. In today's globalized world, many traditional customs are gradually being diluted, but the Teacher's Day at Burapha University in Thailand makes me feel the power and charm of tradition.
This apprenticeship festival will forever be etched in the depths of my memory. It not only allowed me to appreciate the unique cultural customs of Thailand, but also gave me a fresh perspective and reflection on education and teacher-student relationships.
